Firefighting Hose Cleaning & Decontamination

In my fourteen years as a firefighter, the importance of cleaning ourselves and our equipment has never been so critical.  The fact the fire hose decon makes cleaning our hoses so easily makes it a valuable tool for our crews!  I can remember laying our hose out, spraying one side, flipping it over and repeating. I have been with the Phoenix Fire Department for just over 23 years, and I have seen many changes throughout the years. The one that has impacted firefighting and firefighters the most is the type of materials used in construction and the manufacturing of products. I truly believe this has caused the increase of cancer we are seeing in our profession. The Fire Hose Decon helps eliminate some of that exposure, it also saves an incredible amount of time and manpower after a fire has been extinguished.  I have had the opportunity to use the Hose Decon unit on many fires over the past year and am always amazed at how well it cleans the fire hose while saving time and back breaking work. Our old method of cleaning the fire hose involved laying out each hose and washing them with the red line one by on the dirty contaminated ground or rolling all the hose up and cleaningthem at our fire station. Now we just hook up the Fire Hose Decon unit up to our Red Line and wash the hose as we are loading it. There are a lot of great tools and ideas being developed to help make our job easier and safer and the Fire Hose Decon unit is one of them. 

Using the hose Decon gives us the ability to clean our fire hose off at the scene of the fire right after the fire is out vs. taking the hose back to the fire station- eliminating the hassle of taking the fire hose on and off of the truck. It is a quick and easy set up allowing for the hose to be cleaned at the scene and back on the fire truck ready to go. 

As a 20+ year firefighter, I have seen products come and go, but I hope to see this one stick around.  Let’s face it, picking up and washing hose is a “drag”, but this Fire Hose Decon is easy to set up, it is well made, and makes cleaning hose a breeze.  This will make your crew’s job easier, and prolong the life of the hose with regular use.  These should come standard on every engine or truck with hose.  I would recommend the Fire Hose Decon to any crew, fire department, or apparatus manufacturer who wants to keep their equipment clean and their fighters happy.

Fire Hose Decon is what we've been needing on the fire truck for a long time.  After years and years of scrubbing hoses on scene or back at the firehouse after a fire this appliance is the new way to quickly and effectively clean hoses!  This was a much needed addition to our total decon process.

As a Firefighter I have always wondered how I could clean our fire hose more effectively prior to loading it back on the truck. The Fire hose Decon system is a very fast and efficient way to clean all the ash, debris, remnants or residue after every fire while you are loading it on your fire truck.
